Jonathan H. Lack, Executive Director, Houston Wellness Association
Jonathan H. Lack is the executive director and founding board member of the Houston Wellness Association. He is one of the founders of the Mayor's Wellness Council, where he serves on the Executive Committee. Lack is principal of ROI Ventures, a marketing and strategic planning management consulting boutique founded in 1993. He has been interim CEO of Antone's, LP, and executive vice president of marketing and strategic planning for CompuBank, NA, the first virtual national bank. He currently serves on the executive committee for ALF Houston and is a director for the Texas Lyceum. He earned an MBA from The Wharton School, a master's in international relations and economics from Johns Hopkins SAIS and a master's in Middle East studies from UC, Berkeley.
Philip Smeltzer joined Humana in 2006 as a Strategic Consultant, Wellness. Previously, Philip was the Vice President, Health Improvement HealthNow NY in upstate New York. Phil had been responsible for the design, development and implementation of the current wellness programs at Humana. The scope of current responsibility includes employer group and consumer program support for 3.2 million members as well as wellness training support for Humana Associates. Mr. Smeltzer has previously worked as an Associate Director with the Wellness Institute of Buffalo. Mr. Smeltzer has also served as a field product manager for Abbott Diagnostics after serving as a Marine Corps Officer on active duty for 5 years and the Reserves for 19 years. Mr. Smeltzer holds a Master of Science Degree from Canisius College, Bachelor of Arts from Oregon State University. His academic interests have focused on obesity management and the use of communication techniques to change behavior. Phil recently relocated to Louisville Kentucky in his new role with Humana and is pursuing his doctoral studies at the University of Louisville.
Kenneth D. Wells, M.D. has over 20 years of health care experience, spanning corporate wellness, occupational medicine, medical management, public health, family medicine, health education and pharmacy. Dr. Wells founded Alken Health Resources as an administrative resource to provide medical direction and service to Fortune size companies. Alken's services allow corporate clients to focus on their core business, while reducing costs, and enhancing health services. His corporate experience includes program start-ups and reorganizations. He has developed and managed several national and international programs. Dr. Wells has served as corporate medical advisor for several companies in Houston and across the country. He previously served as Corporate Medical Director for Tenneco Inc. as well as Medical Advisor to Dynegy Inc., PennzEnergy and the El Paso Corporation. The programs and management processes developed by Dr. Wells produced substantial savings and enhanced efficiencies for these companies. He has consulted with major insurance companies, hospitals, NASA and a leading railroad in their efforts to develop innovative health services to improve quality and reduce costs. Dr. Wells serves on several boards and has held advisory positions with The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The UT Health Science Center in Houston, and The Washington Business Group on Health.
